The Museum of Valenciennes was built under the third Republic. It is a very large and spacious building housing a prestigious collection composed of  works ranging  from Gallo-Roman to XXth century  archeology.  There is as well an imcomparable collection fo Flamish paints (Jérôme Bosch, Bruegel, Rubens, Jordaens, Van Dyck…) .

THE LIBRARY OF  VALENCIENNES

It was open on the day after the French Revolution. The library of Valenciennes has been occupying a wing of the Jesuit’s old collège for more than 2 centuries. This part of the building was rebuilt around 1740 but its origin goes back to 1591. It still houses the Jesuit priests’ library.

The library of Valenciennes was extended and fully refurbished in 1994 and occupies three main bodies of a building surrounded by light thanks to a high glass roof.
